If you are coming from London we recommend flying to Berne Airport as it is the closest to Saas Fee. There are flights from London City Airport with a fantastic small Swiss airline called Sky Works – go to http://www.flyskywork.com/en.
Berne Airport is 94 Km away from Saas Fee. Once you arrive at Berne Airport the easiest route is to get a train to Visp from Thun Railway Station. To get to Thun Railway Station take a taxi from the airport.
The other airports are:
- Geneva airport, Switzerland is 227km away
- Zurich airport, Switzerland is 249km away
Zurich airport tends to be less chaotic than Geneva. Once you arrive in Switzerland at your airport of preference we would highly recommend using the train service for your transfer. The train service in Switzerland is incredibly reliable and efficient and takes considerably less time than travelling by road.
Transfer – From Berne Airport
The quickest and easiest route is to get a taxi from Berne Airport to a small town called “Thun” (about 25 minutes away) and then catch the train from there to Visp (37 minutes). The only problem with this route is that taxis are expensive in Switzerland so the taxi from the airport to Thun could be as much as £80. Fine if you are a group but not if you are on your own! The other alternative is to get the bus from Berne Airport to Berne Railway Station (about 20 minutes) and then get the train to Visp from there (55 minutes).
Transfer – Other airports
Zurich and Geneva airport both have easy rail links to Saas-Fee. Change from train to bus at Visp. Getting from the airport to Saas-Fee by train and Postbus is easy. Take the train to Visp then catch the Postbus to Saas-Fee which runs every half hour until just after 9pm at night and connects with all major trains at Visp.
On arrival at Visp follow signs for Saas-Fee. They will lead you to the Postbus directly in front of Visp railway station where the Saas-Fee bus stop is clearly signposted.
It's 27kms from Visp to Saas-Fee and the journey takes approximately 45 minutes. On arrival at the bus depot in Saas-Fee remember to make bus reservation for the return journey.
Travelling by Road
The best route from the North (Zurich Airport) is via Bern through the Lőtschberg tunnel using the motorail service, which costs CHF 25 each way.
From the West (Geneva Airport) Saas-Fee is reached via Lausanne and the Rhone Valley to Visp.
It takes around 2 hours 30 minutes to drive to Saas-Fee from Geneva airport and a little over 3 hours from Zurich.
Saas-Fee is car free so cars must be parked outside the village, in a covered and outdoor car park. From the drop off point you can either choose to walk or take an electric taxi to Chalet Greta.
To see how far the car park area is from Chalet Greta view our map on the Location Page. It is about a 5 minutes walk (300 metres).
